Centered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Riteway Bus Service has

designed an environmental sustainability program with the environment. Teir commitment to create a sustainable envi- ronment for employees, communities, and future generations, led to active involvement with Wisconsin Clean Cities, Wiscon- sin Partners for Clean Air, and the Wisconsin Asthma Coalition. Tese organizations promote cleaner air through alternative fuel development, voluntary action, and other related strategies. Riteway Bus was also featured in a “Showcase Story” pub-

lished by Te Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources last September. It highlighted an event held earlier that month involving the co-director of National Clean Cities, the superin- tendent of Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District, executive director of the State Energy Office, and Riteway President Ron Bast, who introduced to the community a new project to in- tegrate hybrid school buses and new infrastructure to support their clean transportation efforts. Tis project is funded in part by the Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program — proving again how communities and contractors can make a powerful difference for the environment. What can you do to get involved with the Go Yellow, Go Green

campaign? Work with your local community leaders to identify and secure federal and state funding to help retrofit your local

school bus fleet with available clean technologies. Implement idle-reduction programs to minimize bus idling at school, in the bus yard, and on the road. Convert to newer technology buses, especially on high mileage routes, and modify older buses with emissions control technology to reduce soot and smog-forming gases. Tese practices will cultivate relationships with local gov- ernments and businesses, strengthen communities and improve the environment around you. Te application process will be opened to all NSTA Contractor Members with a deadline of May 2012, so start taking action now. For more information on how to become a member of NSTA, or if you would like more details on the Go Yellow, Go Green campaign, please contact our staff at info@yellowbuses.org. ■

Te National School Transportation Association is a trade organization representing school bus contractors; that is, private companies that own and operate school buses and contract with school districts to provide pupil transportation. For 40 years, it has been dedicated to safe, secure and efficient transportation of children, and works to foster improvements in all areas of pupil transportation. Members range from small one- or two-bus companies to larger corporate entities operating more than 1,000 school buses in multiple states.
