New Federal Drug Testing Form for Transportation Employers One major change the U.S. Department

of Transportation (DOT) recently made to its procedures for transportation workplace drug and alcohol testing goes into effect Dec. 1. Laboratories, consortium/third- party administrators (C/TPA) or other parties that provide a Department of Health and Human Services Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF) for DOT urine collection must use a newly revised

form or else the drug test will be cancelled. Until Nov. 30, the old CCF can be used.

Te new CCF will include a line item for the medical

review officer to note the

drug(s) for which a positive result is veri- fied and a new line item for documenting other refusal-to-test situations. Tere is also a new section that spells out the infor- mation that employers and their C/TPAs must routinely provide to collectors.

Motorcoach Safety Records Tis fall, motor-

coach customers will be able to download an app that allows access

to a com-

pany’s safety record before booking a trip as early as this month. Te Federal Motor Carrier Safe- ty

(FMCSA) announced the new tool for smart phones during the National Motor- coach Safety Summit in Washington, D.C. in September. Te app will also allow the public to submit any safety violation to FMCSA’s National Consumer Compliant Database. Te daylong Motorcoach Safety Sum-

mit included a discussion among safety experts of the U.S. Department of Trans- portation’s

intermodal approach to

strengthening motorcoach safety. It was followed by a panel that highlighed the perspectives of individuals responsible for the day-to-day safety of motorcoach passengers, vehicles and drivers. Summit participants also focused on how to de- velop and train professional bus drivers, understand hours-of-service require- ments and employ effective tools that encourage consumers to choose a safe motorcoach company. Roadside motor- coach inspections are up by nearly 100 percent since 2005 to nearly 26,000, and compliance reviews have increased by 128 percent to more than 1,000 over the same period.
