Welcome to the third issue of Medlab this year. As we look forward with anticipation to the 2012 edition of Medlab at the Arab Health Exhibition
and Congress, this issue features a range of articles spanning various subjects that come under the Medlab umbrella. As a follow up to his article in
issue 2 ‘The human side to Laboratory Management’, Dr Carlo Kaabar considers what makes a successful laboratory team, how to communicate with the team members as well as how to motivate them. He also makes some suggestions regarding performance appraisals. In addition, Dr Ghazi Tadmouri
provides an overview of genomic medicine. As a specialist working at the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies in Dubai, he explains recent advances in high-throughput DNA genotyping
