LISTENING to music produced ITB (“in the box”, or using a computer) we’d suggest the average standard of percussive programming is better than ever, even within the music of total beginners. Quantise & groove templates are now a basic feature in all DAWs, of course, but sometimes, for a totally authentic live feel, you still need to reach for proper loops from a proper live percussionist. Multi percussionist kingpin Pete Lockett has laid down grooves for Peter Gabriel, Jeff Beck, Bjork, Amy Winehouse & countless others, and here you can get your mits on 930 MB of his expertly-played and


recorded loops, covering all bases from out-and-out drum kit workouts, to shakers, tambourines and triangle along with a folder of ‘swishes’ and ‘Airtoesque’ sound effects.


Naturally, all samples clock in at 24 bit – particularly important when dealing with highly dynamic percussive sounds – and sound crystal clear throughout. More importantly, the groove of most of these loops is “tight” enough to add energy to a rigid 4/4 dance beat, while “loose” enough to add an interesting feel.
