BEFORE we jumped onboard the iPhone bandwagon many friends showed us A Tasty Pixel’s Loopy app, taking pleasure in rubbing our primitive faces in its revolutionary handheld looping capabilities. Problem was, though, that while it was great fun to record the sounds of our bodily functions and assemble them into a bizarre rhythmic mish mash, we found our deeper musical desires somewhat unsatisfied. Enter version 2. With features including the ability to import a wide variety of your own sound formats via iTunes, auto-analysed tempos for all sounds, loop merging, pitch shifting, and sharing of your creations via email and Soundcloud upload, its clear
the developers have pushed this app beyond the realm of the mere
timewaster. Of course, though, it is still just as intuitive and downright
fun to use, and the familiar 6 dial interface remains visually alluring for long and involved sessions.
One (perhaps the only?) fly in the ointment is that we’d really like to see a dedicated iPad version of the app, simply because it seems a bit of a waste to use its beautiful big screen for just the 6 loop dials. That said, this is still the bees knees of
