OTS: A record breaker

Organiser MCS gives SGB Outdoorreaders the lowdown on the forthcoming event.

S

ince the inaugural Outdoor

Trade Show (OTS) opened its doors in 2006, the event has become a

runaway success and proven to be very popular amongst retailers and manufacturers alike. OTS continues to break its own records with an ever-increasing number of exhibitors and visitors attending year-on-year; launched with 46 exhibitors, the show has grown to over 130 exhibitors for the 2011 event. The show has also continually developed and attracted a wide range of manufacturers offering a mixture of products that cater for a variety of interests from canoeing and cycling, through to outdoor and camping. The autumn timing coupled with this strong mixture of brands, as well as providing the opportunity to meet with old favourites and discover new companies, has undoubtedly contributed to the success of OTS. The continued growth highlights the need for such a trade event in the UK. This year there has been a trend for exhibitors to book their stand earlier than ever before to ensure they don’t miss out on the opportunity to reach both new and existing customers. OTS 2011 has even attracted an impressive selection of well-known brands as first time exhibitors including Timberland, Craghoppers and Rockport.

Originally introduced in 2009 to recognise innovations and product development in the outdoor industry, the annual Novel Awards will take place at the Outdoor Trade Social on September 26 in the link between both exhibition halls. These present an attractive prospect for brands to gain recognition for their products and help them stand out further from the competition. The awards are popular with all exhibitors and the social event provides an ideal environment for everyone to network and socialise with others in the industry.

Winners from each of the categories – accessories, camping equipment, backpacks, clothing, footwear and sleeping bags – will be announced by special guest Bonita Norris, the youngest British female to summit Mount Everest to date. The winner of the Product of the Year award, selected from amongst the seven winners, will also be announced at the event.
