STARTING OVER
Starting Over For the last ten years the International Airbrush Show Bel- gium has been held in the Casino in a city called Spa even though the city itself is a very picturesque place it is mainly a vacation destination and vacationer’s do not make the best of visitors for an International Airbrush Show I would be surprised if one in ten actually knew what an airbrush is.
Now at last this International Airbrush Show has moved to Antwerp where it is hoped to attract a bigger and better audience. I spoke to the organizers of the Show Hugo and Daisy Verv- liet who said they were thrilled at the prospect of attract- ing a larger audience. Hugo told me that of course it will take time to build, we do not expect an overnight success but we are now in a cosmopolitan city that is very central and it gives us a chance to promote the show a lot better. We are also fortunate to have a solid network of artists that wish to grow with us and look forward the next few years. The unique thing about our shows is that we offer the artists a free stand and because of this we are inun- dated with requests from artists to come and show their work, this also puts us in a position to select a good variety of different sorts of work. The artists also understand that we are starting over at a new location and that it will take some time to get things up to speed. Our visitor attendance was not too bad for the first time here we had 750 people through the door. One of those visitors was of great impor- tance to us as it was the Senator for Culture here in Ant-
werp. I have to say he was impressed with what he saw and now realizes that the airbrush is a tool that can be used in art for some amazing results. We hope to get his support for next year which means that the city of Antwerp will help with the promotional side of things. Of course networking with people such as yourself from Airbrush Technique is very important, without such forums and publications there would not be an Airbrush community you are a sort of life- line and I sincerely hope that you continue to come to our shows around Europe to promote the wonderful world of Airbrushing.
