Japan Airlines to add Boston as new US gateway
Boston Logan International airport will achieve a long-sought goal of hosting non-stop services to Asia when Japan Airlines starts flying B787 operations from Boston to Tokyo-Narita International airport in April 2012, the Massachusetts Port Authority says. Boston is the largest US market

announcement of the new route, Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick said: “Our counterparts in Tokyo understand the value of a direct flight that will connect them to our growing healthcare, biotechnology,
telecommunications and advance technologies industries, and to our prestigious colleges and research universities.” Masaru Onishi, president of Japan
Airlines, noted that Boston will be “our first new gateway in North America in 13 years … we are confident this new route will prove to be another valuable link for commercial and cultural exchanges between both regions.” n As an example of its cargo capabilities, Boston Logan handled 43,965 tons of cargo in May, a 2.2
percent improvement on the same month last year. For the first four months of the year, the airport processed 171,590 tons, a slight drop of 0.8 percent year-on-year.
