Somewhat more respondents use the Internet about an hour a day than last year, and overall usage is up a small amount.
Time spent on the Internet stayed consistent with last year’s results
with 73% reporting that they use the Web in some fashion everyday, as it relates to work. Twenty-one percent just use it a few times a week; five percent use it once per week and, yes, there are those that claimed that they never use as it pertains to work. Which always begs the question: how did you answer this online survey? More contractors are spending more time when they log on — 33% say
they use the Web between 30-60 minutes per day for work; 24% claim 16-30 minutes per day; 21% use for one to two hours; 13% are Internet- intensive, spending 2+ hours per day on the Net; and 9% use it rather briefly at one to 15 minutes per day.

this chart in again this year to demonstrate that a large segment of the industry’s population is nearing retirement, which will open the way for a new crop of younger, Internet-savvy

cross-section of those surveyed as it relates to company size was one- to five-man shops (50%), followed by six- to 10-man shops (16%) and 51+ employees at 14%. Eleven- to 25- man outfits (13%) and 26-50 (7%) rounded out the answers.

overwhelming 88% said that they prefer going to the manufacturer’s website directly. Fifty- five percent go to their trusted trade publication and 45% go to the corresponding trade pub websites. Fifty-one percent use industry catalogs as their choice for industry info.

Trade publications and websites are a popular means of obtaining industry news and information about products, as are manufacturer websites, but the venerable catalog still has its adherents.
