In the June 2011 issue, I gave Paul A. Baumgartner of
Batavia Plumbing Co. in Illinois my ideas regarding the problem he was experiencing with regard to unlicensed persons performing plumbing services. The following e- mail has since been sent to me and may further help Paul. “In Indiana we have pursued Angie’s List to supply a
license number if it is needed for the trade. We report all ads to the Attorney General. It’s the law in Indiana to have a license to plumb and have to show your license # posted when advertising. The PHCC has a bumper sticker (Hire A License Plumber. It’s The Law). “If you don’t have a plumbing license the customer
does not have to pay for it. IC25-28..5.1.11 says you have to have a license to do the work. Paul and Ill. need
to get behind the PHCC in this area and support them or call us in Indiana and we will show him how to get it done. Indiana has been very successful with this we have inspectors asking for license numbers and cities looking for handymen because it’s about the money here. They can fine them up to $5,000.00 per hit without a licensed contractor.”
