Industry gives support to Red Tape Challenge
The electrical contracting industry has welcomed the launch of the government’s Red Tape Challenge to reduce the amount of unnecessary regulation. However, the ECA has warned that while government says it will tackle what it regards as burdensome health and safety regulation, many of the rules in its sights are based on the requirements of European Directives, and cannot simply be scrapped. Paul Reeve, head of Safety and Environment at the ECA, says that consolidating overlapping health and safety regulations would provide better regulation benefits with very little
effort. He commented: ‘We recently provided the government with a proposal that would see more than 15 current and amending health and
safety regulations consolidated into one master set of regulations, without any downside for the health and safety of workers.’
