capability, providing functionality for situational awareness, sensor management and threat evaluation. More consoles can be added later if required. The C-Search radar sensor suite

has a SCANTER 4100 air and surface surveillance radar combined with an identification friend of foe (IFF) system that provides identification to the air tracks of the radar. The radar has the ability to detect small targets such as people in the water during search and rescue (SAR) operations, detection of combat swimmers in adverse weather, as well as guide helicopters when landing on ships according to Terma. Fire control is provided by the C-Fire

module which includes a C-Fire Electro Optical (EO) Director that incorporates a thermal imager, TV camera and an eye-safe laser range finder. C-Fire is controlled from the C-Flex multifunction consoles, the director being automatically trained to a track from the situation display, or manually laid on by a joystick in the console. Armament comprises a single OTO 76mm Super Rapid gun, two amidships- mounted small-calibre cannon – most likely MSI Seahawk 30mm remotely operated guns as well as machineguns on the bridge wings.

Endurance 120 and 160 ST Marine is also marketing two other amphibious ships – the Endurance 120 and the Endurance 160. The 120 is a smaller version of the Endurance 140 with a length of 120m, a beam of 21m, draſt of 5m and a standard displacement of 6800tonnes. Unlike the Endurance 140 design, it can only carry one medium helicopter and payload is reduced by 25%. The ship’s complement is 108 including eight air crew and top speed is 15knots. However, perhaps the most interesting

variant is the Endurance 160, which is a multi-role support ship or a Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) by any other name. The ship has a flexible deck configuration with ramps, turntables and liſts which permits rapid re-roling while underway. facilities when the ship is used in a Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR) role. A 140m-long flight deck with an Indal

ASIST (Aircraſt Ship Integrated Securing and Traversing) system is large enough for five medium SH-60B or two heavy-liſt helicopters. Two aircraſt elevators, located fore and aſt move helicopters from the flight deck to the hangar below. At least seven medium helicopters can be stored in the hangar which can also be used for light- and heavy-wheeled vehicles which access this deck from lower decks using a ramp.

Tere are two more decks below the

hangar for vehicle storage. One of these is a light vehicle storage deck which can be converted into a hospital. Heavy vehicles are stored on the well deck which can accommodate 27 infantry fighting vehicles. A turntable assists in loading and unloading vehicles via the side loading ramp. Modular medical facilities can include

five operating theatres, a 12-bed intensive care unit, 42-bed medium dependency unit, dental and other specialised facilities depending on the modules selected. Typically, the hospital modules are driven up through a tiltable ramp from the well deck below this deck. To ease configuration changes and

avoid pipe penetrations, ST Marine says that toilets and cleaning stations are built into the ship as permanent compartments. To handle a large volume of casualties safely and efficiently, the patient flow is such that there are multiple paths to reach the medical facilities either from the flight deck or well deck. For moving troops and

vehicles, four 23m LCM can be carried in the floodable dock. In addition, two 13.6m LCVP are davit mounted on the hull sides. The Endurance 160 has a length of 163.7m, a beam of 25.6m, a draft of 5.8m and a displacement of around 14,500tonnes. Maximum speed is 22knots

and range is greater than

7000nm at 15knots. Military lift is almost double that of the Endurance 140 design. Ships complement is 140 and an additional air group of 150 persons. Troop lift is greater than 400. Details of the propulsion system have not been revealed other than there are two CPP and two bow thrusters. Various types of defensive armament such as close-in weapon systems and remotely operated guns can be fitted.

Customisable platform ST Marine says that the Endurance series, which were designed on the basis of experience gained from designing and building ro-ro and ropax vessels, provide a cost-effective platform that can be customised to customer requirements. ST Marine would not confirm if this design is to a Singapore Navy requirement but given the market trend, it would not be surprising if the Singapore Navy were to order such a ship. ST Marine also builds a range of smaller

aluminium-hulled landing craſt known as the BRAVE series to complement its larger Endurance line. Five variants are offered based on payload in tonnes. Te smallest are the aforementioned Brave-4T and 18T followed by the 27m, 30T. Te larger vessels are a 43m, 75T and the 47m 150T models. All these vessels have a proprietary air-lubricated hull form. They are all powered by two or four waterjets. Maximum speed is in excess of 25knots for the 4T and 18T and between 18-25knots for the larger models. Te 43m and 47m landing craſt are of

a ro-ro design with an offset pilothouse. Both types can be fitted with two or four waterjets. Te 75T model has a deck area of 160m2 and a deck width of 4.5m while the 150T model has a deck area of 280m2 and a deck width of 6.1m. Range for the 75T is 360nm at 15knots while the 150T can cover 500nm at 15knots. WT
