A special kind of inspiration CEC employees find Special Olympics uplifting

hile their disabilities leave them less able in some areas, there is no question Oklahoma’s special athletes

possess the lion’s share of courage and determination. In fact, their accomplishments during the Oklahoma Special Olympics— whether to cross the finish line in a wheelchair, make a long jump or swim a lap in the swimming pool—are so inspiring that many bystanders can’t keep their seats. They stand, they cheer, and sometimes they cry.

For Choctaw Electric’s team of volunteers, the time donated to the Statewide Special Olympics seems a small price to pay for what they receive in return: Hugs, smiles, and thanks from children and adults whose handicaps are far less important than their joy and determination.

For the past 12 years, CEC has provided volunteers for the event, which took place this year on May 11-13 in Stillwater. Team members included Tonia Allred, Lori Bryan, John Drake and Joe Penson. Volunteers from other electric cooperatives brought the total number of electric co-op volunteers to 162.

Kathy Holsonbake, assistant coordinator of the statewide cooperative volunteer effort, said the event never fails to leave co-op employees exhausted —and inspired. “It’s a great event but we love doing it,” she said. “Our volunteer effort just keeps on growing.”

CEC employees certainly plan to return next year—and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that. For more details on Special Olympics volunteers, please visit www.oaec.coop.

CEC’s budget billing plan levels out seasonal extremes Say goodbye to seasonal high bills.

H

ot summers and cold winters can cause your energy usage to rise. With Choctaw Electric’s budget billing plan

you can level out those seasonal high bills.

Budget billing works by averaging your usage over a period of eleven months, making it easier to anticipate your energy spending and avoid any unpleasant seasonal surprises.

For additional convenience, be sure to ask about CEC’s automatic payment plan. With this option, your monthly payment is automatically withdrawn from your checking, savings or credit card account, saving you time and trouble.
