For lovers of art, the Palazinna Grassi aims to offer an alternative view of Venice. Nestled on the Canal Grande and hidden by a door marked only by a bull’s head, this is famed designer Philippe Starck’s first foray into the world of Italian hotels. Pushing the boundaries of hotel design in Venice, Starck has managed to create a contemporary world with an undeniably Venetian twist.

Living the Venetian Life

There are his signature oversized lamps and furniture but look closely and you’ll see those famous Venetian masquerade masks set against the lamps. Venetian patterns are etched into the mirrors and there is no mistaking the traditional terrazzo floors.

Art is celebrated everywhere in this hotel - custom made pieces by artist Aristide Najean can be seen throughout and the Palazzo Grassi, one of the city’s best new contemporary art museums is just around the corner. Perhaps the most intriguing offering is dinner with Countess Enrica Rocca. A brief internet search reveals her to be something of a cooking aficionado dedicated to raising the profile of Venetian cuisine. The ability to choose your menu and shop for your food with the chef may give some travellers hungry for a more intimate Venetian experience a peak into daily Venetian life.
