ike a lord overlooking his domain, the Château de Bagnols – complete with a moat, a drawbridge and towers of honey-coloured
stone - sits proudly amongst Beaujolais vines and lush green hills near Lyon.

and the Renaissance... the extravagant interiors are as far from the idea of a boutique hotel as is possible - intensely beautiful, with incredible four-posters piled high with mattresses and hung with heavy red-brocade drapes or antique silks.
Under the beamed ceiling and the imposing Gothic fireplace in the Salle des Gardes, the restaurant seems to await the return of the Knights of the Round Table to serve royal, regional cuisine. Chef Senia arrived in March 2011 and is the Château’s new Executive Chef. Specialising in working with French regional and local produce, he also adds his own personal touch, drawing inspiration from his experiences abroad in countries ranging from Japan and the Philippines to Spain. Dinner is served in the former guards’ room and on the south-facing terrace. Why not experience the Chateau’s cookery course and learn to cook for a King?
