electrically, a conductive disk (or disks) is positioned under each key. They can be made of carbon or other conductive materials and are sometimes gold plated. The counterpart to the disk is located on a printed circuit board beneath the mat and usually comprises a structure forming two interlocking combs. The conductor track short-circuits through the disk when the key is pressed.

life. Thus, it is important to have a lasting solution for labelling keys. What use is a durable keyboard if no one can identify the keys? Abrasion-resistant screen-printing inks, various coatings and laser labelling are all appropriate solutions.

keyboard a steel cladding. A stainless steel front panel and key buttons give a robust appearance, concealing the cost-saving flat keyboard inside.

Applications are found in medical technology for the disabled where pronounced tactile qualities and good cleanliness are required. For example, a silicone switch mat can be fitted with cut-outs for displays and the surface covered with a PE film.
What next?
If it is important to achieve a specific design height, long service life and low cost, it is worth considering a silicone switch mat.
If graphic design, ease of assembly or sealing are important then choose membrane.
A keyboard comprising discrete
keys is only recommended for specific applications such as computers. Users won’t want to type lengthy texts on rubber or membrane keyboards.
