Furthermore, 3M Aerospace is changing the way aircraft components are manufactured with the introduction of 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Void Filling Compounds EC-3550 B/A FST and EC-3555 B/A FST. These low-density void fillers help save time and costs in aircraft production by eliminating process steps, reducing worker time and speeding throughput. With a unique combination of easy dis- pensability and non-sag performance, Scotch-Weld low-density void filling compounds offer a number of productivity-enhancing advantages.
These Scotch-Weld compounds are lightweight, extrudable and pumpable, offering superior handling attributes and dispensability. The simplified prepa- ration and cleanup for the compounds eliminates weighing, mixing and potential re-packaging, saving significant production time. With fast, direct applica- tion, the products reduce – and in some instances, eliminate – hand troweling and trapped air, helping to avoid pinholes, voids and porosity.
3M’s Optical Systems Division presented its new optical film solutions for tablet applications during
SID Display Week 2011, May 16-20, 2011. Specifi- cally, the company’s Display Week tablet demons- tration showed four key optical films: APF-V3, an extremely thin, 26 micron, high brightness reflective polarizer; LBR-160, a high efficiency back reflec- tor; as well as BEF4-GMv2 and BEF4-GT, thin, high brightness, Brightness Enhancement Films (BEF). By combining the films, tablet battery life can be exten- ded without sacrificing display quality or brightness. This one of a kind film combination can also be used to increase display brightness by more than 50%, en- hancing the outdoor viewing experience, in addition to reducing the overall thickness of backlight films by 30%*.
