Manifold Gives Mitsubishi a Boost


Cast Component: Four-cylinder intake manifold. Material: A356 aluminum. Process: Green sand casting.


Converted From: Sheet metal weldment.


Casting Supplier: Eagle Aluminum Cast Products, Muskegon, Mich.


• The manifold is designed for the high performance automotive aftermarket, specifi cally the Mitsubi- shi Evolution. Casting in aluminum added strength to the part and allowed the customer, AMS Performance/Bullseye Power, West Chicago, Ill., to incorpo- rate larger bell horns, larger plenum and matched cylinder port angles, which helped improve performance.


• The casting supplier used intri- cate shell cores to produce the internal bell horns. The casting was 50% cheaper than the original sheet metal weldment.
