2004 Canoe Buyer’s Guide

Welcome to Canoeroots’ 2004 Canoe Buyer’s Guide. We want you to understand canoeing, to get inspired about it, get into a boat you’ll enjoy, and

get out on the water. Simple. Instead of offering an exhaustive list of every two-gunwale craft from Pangnirtung to Pensacola, we asked canoe manufacturers to list just one of their boats in each of six categories: recreational, sporting, solo, whitewater tripping, lakewater tripping and performance. In the upcoming pages, we introduce each category with a fun feature article about that style of

canoeing: about how to fish, for sporting; about why we run rivers, for whitewater; and so on. And then we provide the listings of boats with design characteristics appropriate for that catego- ry’s intended purpose. Out in the real world of canoe buying, there are more canoes to choose from than the models in

these pages, but our guide provides a sampling of what’s on the market and an idea of where to begin looking for a new canoe, and it provides more room for builders to expand on the merits of each design. First, beginning on the next page—we explain almost everything you need to know about

canoe design to make sure you’re paddling the right boat. We hope our buyer’s guide guides you through all the steps, from inspiration, to purchase, to

paddling. 32 www.canoeroots.ca
