Alexander Poliakoff – a Visionary

Alexander Poliakoff, like his father, was an electronics engineer and designer.

Continual development and testing of equipment and new products was the norm. Many of his inventions had been used as part of the war effort, the Bomb Clock Detector was launched on the order of the Ministry of Aircraft to equip Air Force disposal squads.

Under the guidance of Alexander Poliakoff, Multitone Electronics is acknowledged as one of the pioneers in the development of the pager, or bleeper as it became known. During the 1970’s this product was exported all over the world and was the first method in which defined groups could communicate with each others.

First ever “bleeper”.

It is true today that the availability of mobile phones has eroded the personal pager user market. However this communication system is still the most resilient communication tool available. It is therefore most commonly utilised in critical communications activity, i.e. Emergency Services. There are a number of industries that can maximise the level of messaging expertise provided by this technology. Multitone continues to explore these markets and works with partners and system integrators to ascertain the best usage.
