Designer Ranges

Even during a recession, Italian design catches the eye of the British market S

tarting a new bathroom business in 2008 at the start of a recession might have seemed risky to the faint hearted, but the Italian sanitaryware manufacturer Galassia had the foresight to see that there was a market in the UK and Ireland for bathroom products with the Italian flair for design that stand out from the mainstream. Although the recession has bitten hard and still has some time to go before total confidence returns, we have found a demand in the marketplace for designs that are eye catching, as long as they are well made and at a reasonable price.

Managing Director, Galassia UK Ltd.

It would seem to be the extremes of the market that have been most affected in the current financial climate. On the one hand the companies who rely upon ultra high margins as the badge of their exclusivity and on the other, suppliers who must achieve high volume to break even. Those who have trodden the middle path, combining quality and design with decent

margins for their stockists have built up loyal partnerships with showrooms that continue to pay good dividends, not only for their stockists and installers, but also down to homeowners who are happy with their purchases and who are likely to recommend them to others.

Our market is all about confidence and this kind of partnership engenders that. Once our country is back on something like an even keel, business levels will pick up, but there is still a place today for interesting products at good value for money.

The Meg 11 Designer Collection

The work of designer Antonio Pascale, the Meg 11 collection by Galassia introduces a softer, more elegant line into the bathroom without sacrificing the ideals of minimalism. Rounded corners and sweeping lines coupled with the flair of Italian design bring a breath of fresh air into the bathroom. The Meg 11 suite includes baths, sanitaryware, wash basins, shower trays, furniture and accessories for the total bathroom experience.

Midas – The Golden Touch

The Midas range opens a new page in bathroom design with this 650mm x 500mm oval rimless basin set on a sculpted pedestal. Coupled with this are two flat based oval basins with the option of matching stands with supports following the pedestal design. Completing the suite is a choice of back to wall or wall hung toilet and bidet, plus a floor standing toilet and cistern.

With Midas, Galassia demonstrates its glazing skills, offering two tone basins in black and white, matt or high gloss gold and black, or all gloss black. In addition, there are brighter colour ways in two tones in pastel blue, green, yellow or lilac with white.

36 BKUMAY 2011

Basin options include floor and wall mounted plus countertop versions, in a full range of sizes; wall hung or back to wall toilets & bidets and also a close coupled toilet and cistern. Meg 11 furniture also includes vanity units and storage modules in high gloss lacquer finishes
