Salon consultant and nail artist Martin John demonstrates how easily you can bring design and colour to your nails with the use of Trendy NailWraps.

Step 1 Prepare nails and push back cuticle, and remove shine from the nails with a 240-grit file. Remove dust, dirt, oil and contaminants using a cotton pad soaked In alcohol-based prepping solution. Size and apply your tip, trim the length and blend as required and again cleanse to remove any dust and ensure a clean dry nail. Do not apply the product at this time.

Step 2 Size the wrap to the nail. You may find yourself using a larger wrap than you thought necessary in order to allow for the curvature of the nail. Once the wrap is selected roll the sheet forwards and downwards to reveal the wrap.

Step 3 Trim the wrap from the sheet, leaving the opposite end untouched and ready for a later application. Avoid unnecessary handling and just touch the corners as they are very sticky, if you prefer you can use tweezers at this point.

Step 4 Apply the wrap to one side of the tip and firmly press down.

Step 5 Apply heat using a hairdryer for 2-5 seconds to the underside of the wrap to activate the adhesive. Keep the hairdryer moving or use an on off motion to avoid a concentration of heat. It is advisable that you support your client’s hand (it’s best to use your thumb) so that you can feel the temperature and regulate the heat source.

Step 6 Using your supporting thumb smooth the wrap across the nail, use a firm smoothing motion to avoid bubbles or

kinks but do not stretch the wrap. Apply heat again as necessary to the top of the wrap and smooth towards the free edge. You may want to support the finger and rub all over with a dry lint free pad, smoothing out any imperfections. Heat and repeat as required.

Step 7 Using your file at a 45 degree angle (a glass file gives the best results) file downwards to cut the wrap from the free edge, removing excess wrap and blend to the tip.

Step 8 You are now ready for your acrylic application. Prime the nail as required. I chose to use use a small amount of cover pink powder to blend exposed free edge and to extend the nail plate.

Step 9 Pick up a bead of liquid and powder and place on the nail, smooth over the entire surface of the nail ensuring total coverage, pay particular attention to the free edge and sidewalls to ensure total encapsulation. Repeat this process as required until you have sufficient product to create your extension.

Step 10 Product should be smooth and flush at the cuticle and free edge rising to a slight apex in order to add strength and durability to your enhancement. Allow to dry.

Step 11 File your sidewalls and free edge and then go over the entire surface of the nail to detail your design. Repeat this process with a buffer until you have perfected the form and shape.

Step 12 Apply top coat or a tack free U.V. gel sealer to the nail giving your design shine. Cure as required.
