As I make my rounds about town many of you take the time to tell me you enjoy reading our newspaper. No.1 on the list is the interview format that allows the interviewee to tell the entire story in his or her own words. Another compliment I enjoy hearing is the response to my column, UPFRONT. I am pleased to hear my sediments are followed
and supported by so many. Since the inception of KONK Radio, so many listeners have sent in emails commenting on our news coverage and, of course, the various programming we offer every week. Even though I enjoy writing my thoughts and seeing them in print, I want to encourage our readers to begin sending in your omments to KONK Life, for as we grow I believe KONK will become a conduit between our elected officials and the community of the Florida Keys.
FREE CARWASH?
As we witness the walls being raised on the new Horace Bryant Middle School, we can envision the new school bustling with students, teachers and all educational curriculums very soon. However, the families living close to the construction site have to put up with an increase in noise, traffic and dust. Yes, dust or dirt that coats the homes, infiltrates a home’s interior and even coats the cars. Personally I never thought about it, but I live in Old Town and not in the surrounding neighborhood. I am speaking about this for at a recent gathering of friends, a homeowner spoke
out about the situation, and I believe just wanted the opportunity to vent about the subject. I, too, would want to vent if these circumstances affected me and my life. In the end, she jokingly stated that all she wanted was a free car wash to appease her for the noise, traffic and dust. What do you think? Should the City of Key West and Monroe County offer her and the other residents a free car wash to say thank you for the their patience?
THE BATTLE OVER KINDERGARTEN
Unless you have children in the Key West school system, the recent decision by the Monroe County School Board allowing the Montessori Public School to expand its services to include free kindergarten classes, chances are you cannot comprehend the emotions it has evoked within the community. Last week I had just completed a news hour interview with Monroe County
School Board member Robin Smith-Martin. As Robin exited the studio booth, he was confronted by a mother, wife and leading Key West citizen. Te comments concerning the recent approval by the School Board could not be misconstrued. She was upset and upset in her opinion by the short-sightedness of the Board and the long-term effects of expansion of the Public Montessori School. Tis issue is one that if you are a parent you will want to know more about. Please, if there is an issue you wish to express your thoughts and opinion, we
welcome them here. Remember with KONK we communicate both on the radio and in print. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
