CharterFest April 9-10

Start planning now for the 2011

summer boating season by attending the seventh annual CharterFest at Squalicum Harbor. Sailboats, yachts and trawlers will be on display to climb aboard and explore, with boats available for sale, charter or both. Representatives from local Bellingham boat sale and charter companies will be on hand to answer questions and offer special CharterFest discounts. To help keep kids safe on the docks, free loaner children’s life jackets will be available from the Squalicum Harbor Office. “Charterfest is a great opportunity

for people of all ages to get up close and personal with boats and boat representatives,” said Squalicum Harbormaster Mike Endsley. “That kind of hands-on interaction with the boats and charter company staff really allows someone to come away from the event with a great deal of information they might not have gotten otherwise.” CharterFest will be 11:00 am to

5:00 pm at the Gate 3 Visitor Dock at Squalicum Harbor. Gate 3 is near the Bellingham Yacht Club, 722 Coho Way in Bellingham. Parking and admission are free.

Participating companies include:

• Bellhaven Charters • Bellingham Yachts, Sales & Charters • Blue Heron Yacht Sales • Lake Union Sea Ray • NW Explorations • San Juan Sailing • San Juan Yachting This event is sponsored by the Port

of Bellingham and participating charter companies. For more info, call the Squalicum

Lifesling Class April 20

The Milltown Sailing Association

of Everett is sponsoring a one-day class in the use of the Lifesling to retrieve overboard crew members. After a presentation and discussion

in the clubhouse, participants will go out on the water, either in their own boats or someone else's, and get real-life experience throwing the life sling and maneuvering the boat to rescue a person in the water. Those persons who will be rescued

from the water will be volunteers from a local dive club. After the rescue, participants will return to the clubhouse to share what they learned from their experience in the rescue. A low cost hamburger meal will be

provided by Milltown after the class. If you are interested in participating

in this free class, please contact Phil Gay at eyriepg@comcast.net or (206) 947-6095.
