feature seminars from expedition kayakers such as Nigel Foster and ACA–certified instruction.

The mother of all Great Lakes gatherings is the Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium. Held in mid-July on Lake Superior in the small Upper Peninsula town of Grand Marais, Michigan, this event is famous for its party atmos- phere and “tent city” of camping participants. Up to 500 paddlers gather for BCU–recognized instruction and destination-oriented seminars from world- class paddlers like Nigel Dennis and Chris Duff. Day tours follow the colour- ful cliffs of Picture Rocks National Lakeshore and the rolling Grand Sable Dunes.

Many of the symposiums are all-inclusive events requiring early registra- tion, although drop-in spaces are sometimes available—contact event organ- izers for details. See the 2003 Event List below for symposium dates and con- tact information.

Sea kayak guide and instructor Conor Mihell represents Caribou Expeditions at various stops along the symposium tour.
