Master Crafted
This plan originated from a well-built green custom home that was designed to maximize natural daylight, and is accented with dozens of clever custom details.

EARTH-SAVING IDEA
Although this large home plan includes blueprints for a partially finished basement, you could greatly reduce its CO2 impact (and cost) by building just the first floor on an insulated slab—then spending the money saved on an efficient radiant heating system.

GREEN HIGHLIGHTS
A
Framing with 2x6 walls allows more room for insulation.

B
The plan calls for 6” of sprayed polyurethane foam in walls, 10” in ceilings.

C
Optimally placed high-performance windows (see kitchen, left) bring daylight into heavy use areas such as the kitchen.

D
A home office reduces the need for automobile transit.

E
A heat recovery ventilator in the attic (not shown) supplies fresh air to the home while minimizing energy loss.

F
The plan allows for aging in place—with master bedroom and bath on the first floor. There’s no need to move on (and build another home) as family members mature.
