Brian Brecht – Head Coach

Seventh Season

Brian Brecht enters his seventh season as head men’s lacrosse coach at Siena College. In just six short years, Brecht has transformed the Saints into a MAAC champion and national contender. Brecht enters his seventh season with a 52-44 (.542) overall record, including

a 32-16 (.667) mark in the MAAC. A three-time MAAC Coach of the Year (2005, 2007, 2009), he has led the program to three MAAC regular-season championships (2007, 2009, 2010) and a MAAC Tournament Champion- ship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009.

Over the past four years, Brecht has ushered in a new era in Siena men’s lacrosse, as the Saints have posted a 44-23 (.657) record the past four seasons, including a 27-5 (.844) record in the MAAC. The 44 wins is the most over a four-year span in the program’s 46-season history and the team won 22 straight league games entering the 2010 MAAC Championship – the second longest streak inMAAC history.

“Brian’s vast coaching knowl- edge and strong recruiting skills have helped elevate the Siena lacrosse program to a new level,” said Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “I am confident Brian will continue to build upon the success he has already achieved here at Siena.”

In 2010 Siena tied a program record (1979, 2009) with 12 wins in finishing 12-5 overall,

and won the MAAC regular-season Championship for the third time in four years with a perfect 8-0 record. The Saints enter the 2011 season with a 19-game MAAC regular-season winning streak. Brecht guided the Saints to the program’s second straight MAAC Title game where the Saints lost to Mount St. Mary’s.

The Saints made history in 2009 when they matched a program record with 12 wins, won their first MAAC Championship and earned the program’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Brecht won his third MAAC Coach of the Year award as he guided the team to a perfect 8-0 league record and its second regular-season MAAC Championship. The Saints went on to defeat Providence and Manhattan in the MAAC Tournament and earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

The Long Island native propelled the Saints to new heights in 2007 as he secured the program’s first MAAC regular-season Championship. Siena’s 10-6 finish marked its first winning season since 1983 and at the time, was only the third 10+ win season in program history. Siena repeated that feat in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Brecht has coached 33 All-MAAC selec- tions. Additionally, the Saints have earned multiple major awards including three of the past five MAAC Rookies of the Year (Matt Girsh - 2006, Brent Herbst - 2007 and Bryan Neufeld - 2009), as well as the 2007 and 2010 MAAC Offensive Players of the Year (Matt Girsh and Ryan Duggan) and the 2009 and 2010 MAAC Defensive Players of the Year (Chris Viviano and Brent Herbst).
