Schedule Siena should be well prepared for conference competition once it comes around, as Brecht has put together one of the most challenging non-conference schedules in program history with the likes of perennial national powers Johns Hopkins and UAlbany, along with defending National Champion Duke.

The Saints open 2011 with probably their biggest challenge, when they face the Blue Devils in Durham on Feb. 12. The Green and Gold then return north to play in another storied lacrosse venue, when they battle Air Force as part of a dou- bleheader with Syracuse on Feb. 20 in the Carrier Dome.

Things get no easier after that, as the Saints close out a season-opening three-game road trip on Feb. 26 at Johns Hopkins. For the third straight season, the Saints and Blue Jays will square off at Homewood Field in a nationally-tele- vised game on ESPNU.

Siena makes its 2011 Siena Turf Field debut with the start of a three-game homestand Mar. 5 against Hartford. The Saints will also host former conference rival Wagner (Mar. 8) and regional power St. John’s (Mar. 12) during that stretch.

The Saints’ conference schedule gets underway on Mar. 19 when the Green and Gold face Marist. The Red Foxes are picked second to Siena in this season’s MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll and gave the Saints a stiff test in the MAAC Semifinals last year.

Following the early conference contest, Siena plays three more out-of-league games including the next two – at home against Binghamton (Mar. 22) and at Providence (Mar. 26). Non-conference play concludes a month later when the Saints host crosstown rival UAlbany at Siena Turf Field on Apr. 26.

After Marist, the newly-revised six-game MAAC schedule resumes with a trio of home games against Detroit (Apr. 2), Manhattan (Apr. 16) and with Senior Day and Alumni Appreciation Day on Apr. 30, vs. VMI. MAAC road contests include new league member Jacksonville (Apr. 9) and Canisius (Apr. 23).

Should the Saints finish in the top four of the conference standings at the end of the season, they would qualify for the MAAC Tournament, to be held at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y., which was the site of the Saints’ only MAAC Tournament Championship to date, back in 2009.
