“Our midfield is probably one of our biggest strengths,” notes Brecht. “We have several returning players who have enjoyed much success at the midfield position and we will lean on them to put up big numbers again this season.”
The team leader both on and off the field, and the anchor of the group is senior captain John Rogener. The consummate student athlete, Rogener, who is also a candidate for the prestigious Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, provides a steady balance of both playmaking and keen defensive instincts and is one of the best two-way midfielders in the league.
Juniors Chris Roth and Chris D’Alberti have already enjoyed numerous successes in their first two seasons in Loudonville, and as upperclassmen, will be expected to take the next step and play at an All-MAAC level this season. Classmate Patrick Daley appeared in 13 games last season and should see increased time in the mix again this year.
Kyle Curry had a breakout freshman year, tallying 11 goals, and shows a ton of promise for this year and beyond. Fellow sophomore Mic DeBellis saw a handful of action as well, appearing in 13 games as a freshman, carrying over valuable experience for this season.

Sophomore Danny Martinsen showed glimpses of a promising future during an injury-ravished 2010 season. In just nine games, he scored 10 goals and finished with 14 points and, now healthy again, looks to build upon his success as a freshman.
Classmate Collin Parkhurst appeared in nine games a season ago, contributing three points and figures to be in the attack mix again this season.
Entering the fold this season are freshmen Colin Clive and Richie Hurley. Clive was an All-League attackman and three- year starter at St. Anthony’s, while Hurley was a two-year starter atWard Melville.
Midfield Arguably the Saints’ most polished group entering the season is at midfield. Brecht returns five of his top six middies from a year ago and those experienced veterans will be expected to lead the team.
DefensiveMidfield At the defensive midfield position, Brecht has a solid mix of returnees and up-and-coming underclassmen who are ready to challenge for time at both long stick and short stick.
At long stick the Saints are very young and will rely heavily on several inexperienced players who showed tremendous potential this fall. Sophomore Mike Battaglia is the “elder statesman” of the group, having appeared in 15 games last season, which serves as themost experience of anymember of this group. Battaglia had a solid freshman campaign, picking up 13 groundballs while causing seven turnovers.
One of the most pleasant surprises of the fall season has been freshman Pat Killeen who opened the eyes of the coaching staff and is a favorite to challenge for meaningful minutes right off the bat at long stick.
At short stick, junior Evan Gallina has been in the top-three rotation over the past two seasons and has emerged as the lead guy at the position this season. Senior Craig Sherrer has a lot of experience and sophomore Marquis Terrell is an extremely athletic specimen who is beginning to develop into a special talent.
