Energy efficiency – top of the agenda
Data centre managers need to juggle carbon efficiency with high resilience and low TCO, by Robin Koffler, General Manager of Riello UPS (UK).
Energy efficiency is high on every data centre manager’s agenda. The United Kingdom and the European Union have issued a number of environmental and energy-efficiency regulations that apply to the IT industry (with particular relevance to energy consuming data centres), and are aimed at cutting carbon emissions.
The investment in a UPS

many UPS manufacturers that claim their products are energy efficient, however Riello UPS advises to check with the manufacturer or supplier which operating mode that they are quoting efficiency figures for; 98% is achievable and sounds impressive and attractive, but this figure is usually only achieved when a UPS in functioning in line interactive (economy) mode.
