SNIA Europe Datacenter

Technologies Academy meeting delegates needs

Building on its success the 2011 program highlights key developments in Cloud computing and storage.

The SNIA Europe Datacenter Technologies Academy (Twitter hashtag #DCTAcademy) program moves into its second year in 2011 reflecting the very latest trends and developments in the application of infrastructure technologies within the modern IT environment. The rebranded series (formerly the SNIA Europe Academy launched in 2005) achieved new levels of support in 2010 with average attendances up over 20% on the previous year and an increase of 25% in sponsoring vendors, and organisers Angel Business Communications are hoping to repeat this level of success in 2011.

Each Academy agenda delivers a unique blend of vendor- neutral content delivered by members of the SNIA alongside presentations from many of the leading vendors in the datacenter technologies market.

Unsurprisingly the 2011 program will focus a large part of the agenda on the hottest aspect of IT infrastructure design, i.e. that of Cloud-based architectures. The SNIA, through it Cloud Storage Initiative (the CSI) is at the forefront of thinking

with regard to cloud computing standards to benefit of users worldwide. The Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) standard is a prime example of this.

The SNIA CSI is promoting the adoption of cloud storage as a new delivery model that provides elastic, on-demand storage, billed only for what is used. The simplicity of the cloud means that some long held dreams of information management are finally coming true. The emphasis has moved from managing your storage to managing your data in the cloud and at the SNIA Europe Datacenter Technologies Academy delegates will be able to learn more about the association’s latest advice and best practices in this area.

In a survey carried out in October 2010 by Angel Business Communications among delegates at SNW Europe, storage and data management and server virtualization head the list of data centre projects and investments in the next 12 months followed by infrastructure consolidation and storage virtualization. IT management complexity continues to top the list of issues in the datacenter with 53% respondents saying it is one of their biggest challenges.
