CHICagO — The american Institute of architects approved american standard as a course provider for the aIa Continuing Education system. aIa members are required to
complete 18 hours of continuing ed- ucation annually. Eight hours must relate to health, safety and welfare topics, with four being material on sustainable design. american stan- dard is delivering two one-hour-long aIa/CEs courses. The first course, “Infection Control
strategies for sanitary and Efficient Healthcare Facilities,” addresses the problem that each year nearly two million people become infected while staying in hospitals. The course rein- forces design concepts, highlights plumbing fixture, faucet and surface technologies, and establishes water efficiency guidelines for healthcare facilities so they can reduce water consumption while maintaining qual- ity care for patients, visitors, physi-
cians and other staff. The second course, “Water Effi-
ciency strategies for Plumbing,” is also approved by the Interior Design Con- tinuing Education Council. The course identifies initiatives that are driving change in plumbing products and water conservation, describes how LEED programs affect payback, introduces considerations for performance and
