SPOILED FOR
CHOICE
Avid products are used to deliver the vast majority of UK primetime TV. Here is a small selection of some of those shows, including The Delicious Miss Dahl, Waterloo Road, Strike Back, Britain’s Got Talent, Mock the Week, Deal or No Deal and The Apprentice
LifeSTyLe
Post house Splice provided a tapeless Avid workflow for fresh One’s BBC2 cookery series The Delicious Miss Dahl. This included grading by Chris Rodgers on a Baselight to give it a vintage feel and compositing by Adam Dolniak in Avid DS for a super8 look. Nag Kirinde did the mix and sound design using Pro Tools.
DRAMA
Shed’s BBC1 drama Waterloo Road has a complete Avid workflow, from offline on location in Rochdale using Media Composer, to online on Symphony Nitris DX at Sumners in Manchester. Two units shoot concurrently, with dailies sent to Sumners for overnight synching, digitising and back- up to Avid Unity.
DRAMA
The capabilities of Avid DS came to the fore for the edit of Left Bank Pictures’ Sky1 action drama Strike Back. Scanned to .dpx files on a Spirit 2k at Pepper, online and vfx work was mostly completed by Pepper’s Shane Warden in Avid DS, before being graded by Vince Narduzzo at Pinewood’s Narduzzo Too.
