MESSAGE FROM KEN BURNS Dear Fellow Traveler,
I am delighted to welcome you to some of my favorite places, destinations brimming with stories, sights and scenery that truly define the spirit of America. When my co-producer, writer Dayton Duncan, and I create a film, our goal is to put people in that place – in that time when history is happening. A Tauck tour does that, too – you hear the story of what happened and the story can come alive to have greater meaning for you. When we make a film, we want that film to be excellent. What strikes me about Tauck is that same insistence on excellence in everything they do. They share a love for this great land of ours, and it is our hope that our collaborative American Journeys will inspire you to join us on future trips we map out together.

I am passionately interested in understanding how my country works. If you want to know more about this land we call the United States of America, you have to know about the Civil War. We explore the myriad stories of the Civil War on a 5-day co-crafted Event in Washington, DC, geographically the heart of the conflict, and on Most Hallowed Ground, a journey to the places I consider “hallowed ground” where you will hear the stories of the individual men and women who shaped the course of our country, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and the unsung heroes who fought on both sides.
Jazz is a very accurate accompaniment to 20th-century America and allows us to explore the sense of our national character and soul at its most profound center – which is what The Jazz Event is all about.
And Spirit of the Desert: The National Parks of the Southwest? We crafted this itinerary to give you more of a personal experience in national parks that each of us share in common as Americans. Together we own the grandest canyon on Earth and some of its most spectacular scenery. That’s pretty good news for all of us to revel in.
