went from sandy beach to sandy beach, anchoring in 12 to 35 feet of water for 36 days without seeing a dock. You travel on light wind days and stay put on big wind days. That means the winds are constantly blowing at anchor. We have a 75 pound anchor and 300 feet of chain as our primary anchoring system and I have yet to say I think our anchor is to big or we have to much chain. If you are outfitting a boat for offshore cruising, think big when it comes to your anchor. That month we swam everyday and hiked the beach most days as the water was 75° to 80° degrees and the air 80° to 90°. We spent Thanksgiving in Puerto
Ballandra with four other boats that were waiting out the high winds that
blew that week. Interestedly enough, four of the five boats were from the Pacific Northwest – S/V Lilly a Beneteau from Seattle, S/V Excape a Beneteau from Idaho, one from Canada and the last from California. S/V Lilly organized a Thanksgiving get together on the beach. The conversation was about phones.
