Pleasanton Family Wellness Offers Omega-3 Powerhouse
leasanton Family Wellness Center has added TruTG fish oils, a professional-grade omega-3 fish oil supplement, as part of the center’s nutrition counseling program. Owner Kath- leen Beaulieu notes that this product contains substantially more DHA and EPA essential fatty acids than other fish oil products on the market and is easy on the taste buds. “Even children love the taste,” she says. According to the Mayo Clinic, multiple studies support the intake of DHA and
P
EPA in the form of fish oil as a way to lower blood pressure, lower triglycerides and reduce heart attack, stroke, abnormal heart rhythms and even death, in people with cardiovascular disease. Fish oils may also help prevent certain forms of cancer.

Dr. Robert Lustig Discusses Obesity and Fructose
r. Robert Lustig, UCSF professor of clinical pediatrics and recent guest on the Dr. Oz show, will speak about the detrimental effects of fructose at 7 p.m., February 28, at Rossmoor’s Gateway Community Center, in Walnut Creek. No registration is necessary; donations are appreciated. Lustig contends that fructose, although a carbohydrate, acts like a fat in the body and worsens obesity, especially in children. High fruc- tose (such as high fructose corn syrup) stimulates the appetite and increases overall food consumption.

Lustig, the director of UCSF’s Weight Management for Teen and Child Health Program, has authored more than 85 research articles and 45 chapters, including a 2006 article about the correlation between fructose consumption and pediatric obesity.

Paisley Hearts by Michael Wertz
Michael Wertz says he has always found the act of melding the art of illustration and commerce exciting. “I love to direct that passion into crafting an emotive experience that words cannot,” explains the Oakland, California-based illustrator. “For me, it means I’ve created an image that distills a moment of clarity.” Wertz’s bold, energetic visions leap from his imagination through the pencil he always uses to begin an illustration, and finish as digital collage, monoprints or screen prints. He has been creating images for publishers, designers, ad- vertising agencies and musicians since 1995, when he graduated from Califor- nia College of the Arts, in Oakland. The artist’s colorful imagery, com-
missioned by dozens of national clients, has been featured in Communication Arts and American Illustration and recognized by the Society of Illustrators. Today, Wertz runs a printmaking shop called Inky Oxnard, in West Oakland, and lives nearby, as a “… friend to the four-pawed and a lover of all things brightly colored, including love.”
