“The Role of Arts in Reforming Eduction from DREAM to TELL!” DREAM(Developing Reading Education through Arts Methods) and TELL!(Theater for English Learners) are both federally funded programs created at CSUSM that place artists and researchers in schools to improve education. This lecture will be presented by Merryl Goldberg, Professor of Visual and Performing Arts at Cal State San Marcos, where she teaches courses on Art, Learning, and Music. She is the founder and director of ARTES, a center dedicated to restoring arts to education. Dr. Goldberg has numerous publications and is the recipient of numerous grants, including a Federal Department of Education Innovation grant. “The Life and Times of Nicolo Machiavelli” will be presented by Bruno Leone, lecturer and free lance writer, who is the author of several books. “Twenty Thousand Millimeters Under the Sea— Conducting Marine Research While Living in an Underwater Habitat.” In this lecture, Dr. Richard Bray, recently retired faculty member from CSUSM, will describe his experiences working 60 feet (20,000 millimeters) under the sea. In 1870, the French writer Jules Verne published the classic science fiction novel “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”.
