Entering their own Riverdale

Rescheduling inD.C. After opening the season with

an 88-85 overtime win over St. John’s, Eastern lost its next three before beating Bell on Friday. The Ramblers figured they’d have two good chances to get back in the groove this week with games against Dunbar and Coolidge, Monday andWednesday.

That won’t happen, though,

because all games atD.C. public schools this week have been postponed. With the school system on break, so too are the school system’s trainers, which are required to be at eachD.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association event. Even though there were only a handful of games scheduled this week, they will be rescheduled for later in the season, according to DCPS Athletic DirectorMarcus Ellis. Eastern Coach RodneyWright

said he learned of the postponements this weekend. “We’re trying to find a

Christmas tournament real quick,”Wright said. “Hopefully we can get into one of those happening later [in the week].” Eastern only has seniors in its

newly modernized building this year before it enrolls just a freshman class next fall. With the seniors all looking to have a big year,Wright said he has had a tough time getting his players to buy into roles, rather than each look to end his high school career with the bang. “It’s hard dealing with all

12th-graders,”Wright said, “But you teach them that if they do their roles, they’ll all have a big year.”

Batts sets a record Loudoun County senior

shooting guard Brittany Batts became the school’s all-time leading scorer last week in the Raiders’ loss at Freedom-South Riding. With 18 points against the Eagles, Batts eclipsed Angela Dolby’s career mark of 1,458 points, which was set from 1984 to ’87. Batts was honored during

Friday’s 51-46 win overHeritage in which she posted 16 points to increase her career total to 1,480. Afour-year starter who

averaged 15 points per game as a freshman, Batts has become one of the top perimeter shooters in the region and has 181 career three-pointers. She totaled a school-record

571 points to lead the Raiders to the first VirginiaAADivision 4 championship in 2008-09, and this season is averaging 18 points per game. The win overHeritage

snapped a two-game skid for the Raiders, who fell in a pair of lopsided defeats toNo. 5 Oakton and the defending state champion Eagles. They host Tuscarora and

Potomac Falls this week before taking onNo. 12Georgetown Visitation on Dec. 28. —Matt Brooks
