KOKATAT

TROPOS WHIRLPOOL BIB www.kokatat.com $174 US

Most boaters think there are only two ways to extend the paddling season: laying down a grand for a dry suit or spending as much on a plane ticket to Chile. Want to pad- dle in the fringe seasons without needing a second job? If you already have a dry top, then just add Kokatat’s Whirl- pool Bib pants and you’re good year-round. Kokatat’s new waterproof-breathable Tropos material keeps these pants affordable for all but the most destitute paddlers. The cummerbund-like flap on the bib mates with any double-skirted dry top. Roll the bib flap together with the inner tunnel of your dry top to create a nearly waterproof seal. With the ankle gaskets doing their thing down below, you have an outfit that’s almost as dry as a one-piece suit. Our tester found that two minutes of immersion yielded less than a half- cup of water in the suit. —C.M.
