Born Elizabeth Borlase on January 28, 1927, Betty graduated from St. Martin’sHigh School in East Detroit, Michigan. In 1950, she married Navy Lieutenant Eugene Labadie.She moved to Washington, DC in 1956 and later to Reston, Virginia. Betty worked as secretarial assistant to the Vice- President of The National Coal Association until her retirement in 1992. Betty’stwo main passions were travel and photogra- phy.Although she made friends wherever she went, her “best friend” was her trusty Nikon F2 that her brother James gave her as abirthday gift; she never left home without it. Betty was the self-appointed “house photographer” for every family event, office gathering, or picnic to which she was invited. Her photographs are treasured by many.Her uncanny generosity was leg- endary –Betty had ashaggy-dog story and aspecial gift ready for every occasion. Married to Architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen for over fifty eight years,the couple traveled widely with their three sons; the destina- tion that brought her greatest joy was the tiny fishing village of Naousa on the Cycladic island of Paros,Greece.Robin Jacobsen also traveled the many parts of the world to The Middle East, Asia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Russia, France,most of Europe and had been the guest of ambas- sadors,foreign governments and kings such as King Hussein of Jordan and the American embassies of The Soviet Union and France.


Robin Jacobsen was one of the first women to professionally model the "New Look" for Woodward and Lothrop and Garfinkle’s department stores in the 1950’s. In 1979 Robin Jacobsen also championed the landmark legal case for learning dis- abled students who resided in the District of Columbia.


She was adocent of the Corcoran Gallery and also for atime ranthe Art Rental Department of the late The Washington Gallery of Modern Art.


Agraduate of the University of Maryland where she met her future husband, Mrs. Jacobsen was adevoted mother for her three sons; John, Matthew and Simon and their families who collectively produced seven grandsons and one granddaughter.

Grace Donohoe Toomey,85, ahomemaker and along time resident of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away on November 27, 2010.


Grace was born and reared in Washington, DC,the daughter of the late S. Dolan Dono- hoe and Isabelle Cain Donohoe.The family history of Mrs.Toomey is quite unique.An ancestor,who considered himself aGentle- men Adventurer,arrived on the Ark and Dove in what is now St. Mary’sCity,Mary- land, in 1633. The family lived in Southern Maryland for eight generations and Grace is afourth generation Washingtonian. One ancestor was Mary Surratt, aco-conspira- tor of the Lincoln assassination, who was sentenced to death by hanging but later found innocent by Congress.Grace was well- known for making eggnog based on afamily recipe passed down for many generations.


She is agraduate of Georgetown Visitation and Catholic University.Asahomemaker, she had been involved in many charitable organizations and Chairman of many of their events including The Hope Ball and The Winifred McKee Sommerville Circle of the Florence Crittenton Home.Grace was an enthusiastic bridge and poker player and amember of the DARand The Descendants of the Lords of the Maryland Manors.


Predeceased by her loving husband, the late T. Murray Toomey,she is survived by four children, Isabelle (Bea) Hessick (Fred) of Bethesda, MD,Helen Toomey of Bethesda,MD,Mary Louise (Weasy) Toomey of Chevy Chase,MD, and T. Murray Toomey, Jr.ofRockville,MDand her sister,Alice Donohoe Ford. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and three great-grand- children.
