In case you didn’t know... Historic Home Served as Advertisement
When William Kehoe, owner of a local iron works in Savannah, Ga., built his home toward the end of the 19th century, he made sure the prominent house showcased the industry that gave him the means to build it. All of the painted detail work on the brick Renaissance Revival mansion is made of cast iron. Kehoe House, now a bed and breakfast inn, is a popular stop on tours of Savannah’s historic district because of its cast iron trim. According to local legend, Kehoe was known to say, “If you can build it in stone, if you can build it in brick, if you can build it in wood—then I can build it in iron.”
