mirates SkyCargo has recently releasedrecordhalf-year results, posting a net profit of US$925 millionfor thefirst sixmonthsof the financial year, the period


ending 30 September – a huge 351.2 percent increase on the same period of 2009. RamMenen,divisional senior vice


president cargoat Emirates,pointsout that SkyCargocarried23.7percentmore cargothaninthe sameperiodof 2009, a totalof 897,000 tonnes. Its revenue increasedby 48.4percent to$1.2billion


andthe strongSkyCargocontributionaccountedfor 17.8 percentof the airline’s total transport revenue for theperiod. HHSheikhAhmedbinSaeedAl-Maktoum, chairmanand chief executive, EmiratesAirline andGroup, calledthe results


“incredibly robust”.He emphasisedthat the carrierwill“continue toinvestourprofits ingrowingthebusiness”. In an expansionmove, Emirates SkyCargo has introduced a


weekly 117-tonne payload B747-400F service between Dubai andSãoPaulotomeet theincreaseddemandsof thebustlingUAE -Brazil trade route. “Brazil is amajor force in food production – exporting items


such as meat, fruit, sugar, coffee and dairy products – so strengthening our commitment to São Paulo…was an easy decisiontomake,”Menensaid. The carrier has been operating awidebody passenger service


every day to São Paulo Guarulhos International airport, with a weeklybellyholdcapacityof105tonneseachwaysince2007.The newservicetoSãoPaulo’sViracopos-Campinasgatewayoperates via Frankfurt on the outbound leg, returning through Dakar in Senegal. EmiratesSkyCargohasappointedAGUNSAandGlobeAirCargo as itsgeneral sales agents inChile andColombia respectively.
