RAMMENEN, divisional senior vice president cargo at Dubai-based Emirates Airline, talks about surviving the economic downturn andwhat lies ahead for the air cargo industry
The strength of the air cargo industry seems to be picking up again. How did Emirates SkyCargosurvive thedownturn?
“Our positive half-year result for the six months ending 30 September showed thatwe have come out of the period in a good position (see page 5). If there was a positive side to the crisis, it was that it gave people the impetus to look at their own business cases, so that those who survived are getting stronger. “Our customers themselveswere reviewing the
way theyoperatedandhave emergedstronger for it. That is good news for air cargo, which I believe

has now become more integrated into the strategies of those customers.”
Do you expect that this strong rate of improvement in the business will continue intothe future?
“The speed of delivery required to bring new technology to the market is driving the business, but it did see a hesitancy after the July - August vacation period, and the traditional come-back in the September -Octoberperiodwasn’t that strong this year. “The US still drives theworld economy and the
