WHAT:


2007 Canadian Sea Kayak Instructor Conferences. These first-time events deliver a premier forum for: professional development through workshops, dialogue and on-water clinics; learning about current risk management and safety issues and other critical topics; sharing and developing strategies to increase participation in sea kayaking; professional-level industry networking; and recertification with various paddling organizations.


WHO:


Presented by Adventure Kayak and Rapid Media, to be attended by sea kayak instructors, guides and industry leaders from local, national and international paddling associations, clubs, colleges, paddling schools and guiding companies.


WHEN: West Coast: May 13 to 15, 2007, directly following the Vancouver Is- land Paddlefest in Ladysmith. Eastern: May 4, 2007, blending into the Georgian Bay Kayak and Ca- noe Festival.


WHERE: West Coast: Held at Camp Columbia, Thetis Island, British Columbia, Canada. Take the Thetis Island ferry from Chemanus, just south of Ladysmith. Or paddle over in about an hour. Eastern: Held at White Squall, Nobel, Ontario, Canada. The site of the Georgian Bay Kayak and Canoe Festival following the confer- ence.


WHY: To grow sea kayaking through better instruction.


All instructors need to be up to date on the latest teaching methods and issues. They also need to be keenly aware of their influence and responsibilities to the sport and their students. The conferences serve as forums for professional development of sea kayak instructors and guides. With a mix of influential networking, keynote presentations, strategic and tactical interactive roundtables, workshops and on-water clinics the conference will help sea kayak instructors, schools, guides, outfitters and clubs provide better programs, courses and trips.
