lines securing their boats to the vehicle at both ends. They have a blind trust in the rack-to-vehicle fittings and never paddled in a Tilley-wrenching headwind, or they would realize just how much pressure is generated by the 100-kilometre-per-hour gale on the highway. I am truly surprised that shredded kayaks don’t outnumber ex- ploded truck tires on the freeways. Keep your distance and pass with care. As for loading multiple boats on one
vehicle—few have roof and rack capaci- ties much over 100 pounds. I shudder. At one beach, I was parked beside a small compact carrying a 23-foot triple-cockpit kayak. Must have been a real carnival ride in a breeze! As kayaking becomes increas- ingly popular—which is a good thing—an article on the basics of roof-rack safety might not be a bad idea. If only for those who skipped the safety specs that came with their racks and those in the vehicle owner’s manual.

I was just wondering why there are no lon- ger recipes in Adventure Kayak. I miss the recipes. My husband and I love the adven- ture stories and recipes the most. And the photos. Actually my ultimate favourite sto- ry was one Scott MacGregor wrote about a year ago about how now that he has his son he has more reasons to purchase gear and toys. We just had a little grandson added to our family and we cannot wait to get him in the kayak with us. Hopefully I’ll see a recipe in your magazine every now and then.

This is the first letter we’ve received since cutting the recipes five issues ago to make more space for the gear, photos, adventure stories and for our publisher to write about his kids.—Ed.
