MUIR WOODS / SONOMA VALLEY En route to Sonoma, venture deep into the redwood groves of Muir Woods National Monument with your local guide; look up... and up... at these magnificent, centuries-old Coast Redwood trees, averaging between 500 to 800 years old! Spend some free time among the stylish streets and shops of waterfront Sausalito before continuing on into the vineyard-covered landscapes of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, the heart of California’s wine country. Partake in a privately guided tour and tasting at one of the region’s noted wineries before arriving at your spa resort in Sonoma for a three-night stay. 5. WINE TRAIN / NAPA VALLEY / SONOMA Return to the gracious bygone era of elegant rail travel on a journey aboard the Wine Train from the town of Napa through the incomparable Napa Valley. Enjoy a gourmet lunch – complete with wine tastings, of course! – in a restored 1917 Pullman Dining Car during a 36-mile excursion past lush vineyards to the quaint village of St. Helena. 6. TREASURES OF THE WINE COUNTRY Depart mid-morning for the Benziger Family Winery for a private tram tour, wine tasting, and lunch in the cool (literally) “wine cave.” You may choose an optional early morning hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley (additional cost of $285) with a champagne breakfast, then rejoin the others for lunch at the winery.
