Wärtsilä awarded dynamic maintenance deal

Twelve dual-fuel engines become subject of Dynamic maintenance plan for GDF Suez ships.

covering three LNG carriers operated by Gazocean, which are powered by a total of twelve Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines. The company says this contract will utilise Dynamic Maintenance Planning, a new concept in maintaining this type of engine, which is claimed to offer owners a significant reduction in operating costs through less unplanned maintenance, fewer unplanned stops, and by optimising propulsion performance. The concept is based on the

W

condition based monitoring (CBM) system developed by Wärtsilä for its latest engines and thrusters, and which provides a summarised report that enables corrective actions to be taken onboard. Various parameters are fed into the Wärtsilä database and then evaluated by specialists at its CBM centre, where staff then takes the appropriate action. The flexibility of this system allows

maintenance intervals to be extended and spare parts consumption to be reduced, Wärtsilä claims. As a result, it means that the engines and thrusters are serviced only when needed, thereby reducing costs and minimising downtime.

ärtsilä has been awarded a f ive-year technical management contract ,

Engine maintenance on the LNG carrier GDF Suez will be enhanced through the new agreement covering the vessel’s four Wärtsilä 50DF engines.

“Although Wärtsilä has maintained

the engines on these three vessels ever since they entered service, this technical management agreement based on Dynamic Maintenance Planning gives a new dimension to the service support we

can offer on our customers’ equipment,” says Herve Denis, key account manager, Wärtsilä Services, France. “By anticipating breakdowns before they occur, we can reduce risk and, therefore, also the cost of maintenance.” SCRT
