Safety Elastopipe refit on


FPSO Trelleborg Offshore has installed its Elastopipe fire safety deluge system to replace the existing carbon steel pipework on seven modules of Maersk’s FPSO Ngujima-Yin. Trelleborg provided a complete survey, design, engineering, supply and installation package, as well as removing the old installation. The previous seawater deluge system on the


FPSO, which is located in the Vincent Field off Western Australia, had corroded over the two years since its installation. Te system needed constant maintenance, cleaning and testing, and a replacement was required to reduce the long-term cost of essential fire protection.

Te new Intersleek 7180 Linkcoat now allows access to fluoropolymer based Intersleek 900 and silicone based Intersleek 700 foul release technology, without the need and expense of full underwater hull blast cleaning. Specially designed for direct application over


existing traditional antifouling technologies, controlled depletion polymers and hybrid schemes in addition to SPC antifoulings, Intersleek 7180 Linkcoat can be applied directly followed by the full Intersleek scheme. Te combination is designed to significantly reduce the surface roughness of an existing antifouling system by over 70%, resulting in a smoother hull. Adhesion to and performance over a wide range

the existing fire protection throughout the FPSO modules without affecting the safety of the vessel as it continued output. According to Hans-Leo Hals, Elastopipe product manager: “Because Elastopipe is a synthetic rubber-based flexible piping system, it was installed without any welding or other hot work, such as high speed cutting, which could compromise the safety of the vessel.” Trelleborg claims Elastopipe offers a 30-year


minimum maintenance life for fire deluge and sprinkler systems, is highly resistant to impact and, compared with other pipe work materials which need regular inspection and maintenance, offers very low total life costs.

Intersleek 7180 Linkcoat also fills in and levels out the rough surface of an existing antifouling to provide the basis for a smooth finish which reduces drag, improves vessel efficiency and reduces fuel consumption and associated emissions. International Paint claims significant cost savings
