Dubai-based Harris Pye Gulf has seen a noticeable increase in the level of contracts being awarded, mainly in the LNG shipping sector.

specialist, Harris Pye Gulf. The most significant contract that the company has secured in recent months involves the FPSO Aquila for Saipem, which is docked at Drydocks World Dubai. Tis is a long term project where Harris Pye Gulf is undertaking the complete refurbishment of the vessel’s boilers and ancillaries, as well as the installation and commissioning of an owner-supplied dual fuel combustion system for the boilers. Te company is also responsible for all electrical, instrumentation and automation aspects of the contract, right through to commissioning. As Malcolm Jordan, managing director

L

explains, this order is significant for the company. He said: “Although we have a long and mutually beneficial association with Saipem, this contract was won in the face of stiff competition, on the basis of quality and time frame, as well as the fact that we could accommodate all aspects of the work on a turnkey and in-house basis.” Harris Pye Gulf is also working on

the FRSU Livorno for MHI / Saipem at Drydocks World Dubai. In this case the company is partially re-tubing the main propulsion boiler superheaters, using units manufactured from upgraded and sophisticated stainless materials. Later in the year Harris Pye will

be completing an extensive boiler refurbishment and superheater renewal of the main propulsion boilers on two LNG ships for National Gas Shipping Company (NGSCO), also at Drydocks World Dubai, while a contract has been received for a further extensive boiler refurbishment and re-tubing onboard an LNG ship, that will be carried out later in the year for MOL London. Harris Pye Gulf has furthermore won

a Low Sulphur Distillate Oils (LSDO) conversion contract, covering 39 National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) ships, through MHI and Harris Pye in Japan. Tis

is an extensive project that will continue into 2011. Mr Jordan adds: “We are now negotiating with other owners and ship managers for similar LSDO contracts involving both auxiliary and main propulsion boiler installations.” Over the last year Harris Pye Gulf has

completed a number of contracts for Qatar Gas, MOL, K Line, NYK, Oman Gas and Exmar Shipping all involving the main propulsion boilers on LNG ships. The company has also been awarded a number of contracts where the main thrust and emphasis has been on thermal design, failure analysis and accident investigation. This work has been carried out in cooperation with the in-house Harris Pye Thermal Design Department, which is located in Sydney, Australia. To support its burgeoning workload, at

the beginning of this year Harris Pye Gulf moved into new purpose built workshop and office premises located at Emirates Industrial City in Sharjah. “Tis represents a significant investment by Harris Pye and

the new premises are designed to cater specifically for boiler, module and pressure vessel manufacture,” comments Mr Jordan. “We are already looking to expand our Sharjah premises with the acquisition of more land beside the present workshop.” Harris Pye Gulf is now in the process

of opening up a branch office in Abu Dhabi, with the intention of entering the marine and industrial repair market in that Emirate as well. Furthermore the company is presently in discussions with Oman Drydock Company (ODC) with the aim of being a prime contractor at its new docking facility, while moves to expand into Qatar are gathering momentum. Te company has entered into a MOU with Qatar Navigation, and is also looking at establishing preferred contractor status with the Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine facility that is being developed at Ras Laffan. Mr Jordan further reveals that the company is in the preliminary stages of negotiating an entry into the Kuwait market.
