Rodriguez, Sliga earn USAW Triple Crowns
FARGO, N.D. - Michigan’s Freddie Rodriguez and Indiana’s Mitch Sliga both earned Triple Crowns to highlight July’s ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet Nationals. Rodriguez captured Junior Nationals
titles in Greco-Roman and freestyle in Fargo to go with the Folkstyle Nationals title he won earlier in the year. Rodriguez became just the second
Junior Triple Crown winner, joining Montana’s Jade Rauser who earned the hat trick in 2009. Sliga captured Cadet Nationals titles in Greco-Roman and freestyle in Fargo after winning Folkstyle Nationals. Sliga was the lone Cadet to win all
three titles this year. Three wrestlers won Cadet Triple Crowns in 2009. Junior freestyle Minnesota’s Destin McCauley was
named Outstanding Wrestler after domi- nating the field at 152 pounds. Iowa’s Nick Moore pinned South
Dakota’s Robert Kokesh in a battle of Division I recruits at 160. Moore is head- ed to Iowa and Kokesh has committed to Nebraska. One of the best matches came at 145
when Wisconsin’s Alex Dieringer outlast- ed Minnesota’s Dylan Ness in three peri- ods. Ness is a Minnesota recruit. Illinois won the team title. Illinois crowned champions in Matt Garelli (98) and Eddie Klimara (125). Florida’s Tyler Liberatore won a Junior Nationals freestyle title at 130 to become a double champion in Fargo. He earlier won Junior Nationals in Greco-Roman. Idaho’s Tanner Hall won the freestyle title at 215 after placing second in Greco- Roman. Junior Greco-Roman Missouri’s Colton Howell (98 pounds)
and Nebraska’s RaVaughn Perkins (152) won titles. Each won Junior Nationals Folkstyle titles earlier this year. Howell pinned Wisconsin’s Jason
Munoz in the finals. Rodriguez swept California’s Vinny Moita in the finals. Perkins downed Wyoming’s Andy McCulley. Perkins repeated as champion. Minnesota’s Dylan Ness (145) was

named Outstanding Wrestler. Ness was dominant with a 6-0, 6-0 finals sweep of Texas’ Andy Rico. Ness is a past Triple Crown winner in Cadets. Illinois, led by champion Dylan Reel
(160), won the team title. Wisconsin’s Devin Peterson, a Cadet
Triple Crown winner in 2009, downed Minnesota’s Joel Bauman 1-0, 1-1, 1-0 in
